This subject is designed for students who have basic knowledge in expressing their ideas in an academic setting. Through this subject, students will learn to listen, speak, read and write in English to communicate effectively at a university level. In this subject, students are guided in their reading of academic, media and literary texts. The structures of texts are explained; vocabulary is clarified, and students are required to engage with the texts and find the key ideas, arguments and information. Students discuss the concepts and ideas using the new vocabulary. Students are given practice in writing up these ideas and information in a summary task; in a news presentation and in a review task. Students learn about themes; characters; plots, and devices of literary texts.
