Statics: Review of forces and moments: Couples, Equivalent systems. Objects in Equilibrium: Reactions, Static equilibrium, Free-body diagrams. Analysis of Structures: trusses, frames and machines. Distributed loads. Internal Forces and Moments: Bending moment and shear force diagrams. Dynamics: Review of kinematics and kinetics of particles: Curvilinear motion (x/y and n/t) of particles; Relative motion of two particles; Work-energy methods. Kinematics and kinetics of rigid bodies: General plane motion; Relative motion; Kinetics of rigid bodies.
Learning Outcomes
- analyse statically simplified determinate structure, including truss bridge, by using method of sections and method of joints;
- construct free body diagram, shear diagram, and moment diagram for simple structural member with various type of loads;
- compute centroid and moments of inertia for compound cross section areas;
- evaluate and compute the movement of simple mechanic systems;
- describe various testing methods to obtain physical values and report simple tests.
