Students must enrol in ED4090 or ED4190 or ED4293 prior to the commencement of ED4488. Students are required to collect a range of data and evidence during the ED4488 professional experience placement which is integral to completing the assessment requirements for ED4090/ED4190/ED4293. Consequently, it is essential that ED4488 and ED4090/ED4190/ED4293 are taken in conjunction with one another. External offerings available only to ECE ONLINE students. (Professional Experience: The process of placing students for professional experience begins the year prior to placement. Transferring students or out-of-step students must notify the Professional Experience Unit on the relevant campus at the beginning of Semester 2 of the year prior to the professional experience placement.)
This subject is part of the developmental curriculum for professional experience within the Bachelor of Education program. In schools and prior to school settings relevant to their specialist sector (Early Childhood, Primary or Secondary)students will complete four (4) allocated weeks (20 days) of professional experience. For students enrolled in the BEd (Early Childhood Education), 10 days will be completed in a prior to school setting with children aged 3-5 years, and 10 days will be completed in a school with children aged over 5-8 years. All students will complete a range of activities to assure the Australian Professional Standards for Graduate Teachers and, for B.Ed (ECE students, relevant ACECQA standards. Students will also complete five (5) days of Professional Orientation, which will include professional development and seminars with education leaders and stakeholders.

- develop an understanding of school settings (and, for B.Ed (ECE) students, prior to school settings) and how they operate over a school term;
- use Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at a Graduate level and, for B.Ed (ECE)students, relevant ACECQA standards to critically assess professional growth;
- integrate and begin to articulate knowledge of policies, research and practices and own personal practice consistent with employing authorities and school and prior to school policies and procedures and legal and ethical obligations of teachers;
- identify, value, analyse and support a range of learner diversity, including learners with special educational needs, in a school and prior to school setting.
