Administered by: College of Arts, Society & Education

Available ONLY to students enrolled in the Secondary major. Students permitted to enrol in this subject will have met the prerequisite requirements of ED3488 and 69 credit points of undergraduate subjects from the approved education study plan. Students must also enrol in ED4488 at or prior to the commencement of ED4293. Students are required to collect a range of data and evidence during the ED4488 professional experience placement which is integral to completing the assessment requirements for ED4293. Consequently, it is essential that ED4488 and ED4293 are taken in conjunction with one another.

This subject prepares preservice teachers for a range of professional roles within the classroom, school, with parent/caregivers and the wider community. Preservice teachers will investigate a range of teaching and learning theories and apply them to critically reflect on their school-based experiences. The subject will draw extensively upon school-based activities to explore the relationship between theory, policy and practice. Specifically for secondary preservice teachers, this subject will critically examine secondary school curriculum, assessment, pedagogy and reporting practices and relate these to the broader role of schools in communities.
