This is the second subject in the Professional Studies strand of the Bachelor of Education, following ED2491 -Teaching for Learning 1. The focus of this subject will be the development of research informed professional knowledge and practice to support engaging learning in secondary settings. Specifically, students will develop strategies for creating and maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment, articulate a framework for their own pedagogy and focus on the diverse needs of learners in secondary settings. Students will also develop a repertoire of literacy and numeracy teaching strategies to support diverse learner needs. In addition, there will be a focus on developing a repertoire of assessment and feedback strategies appropriate to areas of teaching in a secondary context. Students are required to undertake five (5) days of professional experience
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate knowledge of their learners by collecting, analysing and critiquing research and evidence relating to secondary schooling;
- demonstrate developing knowledge and skills of a range of literacy and numeracy teaching strategies relevant to the secondary setting;
- demonstrate a developing philosophy and strategies for the development of a safe and supportive environment;
- develop and evaluate a range of assessment and feedback strategies relevant to secondary schooling;
- demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at a developed level.
Assumed Knowledge: | A basic awareness of the QCT Standards, Productive Pedagogies is assumed. It is also assumed that students will have strong academic literacy capabilities and the appropriate knowledge and skills to engage critically with set texts and tasks |
Prerequisites: | ED2488 and 42 credit points (MUST INCLUDE ED1491 or MA1000) of undergraduate subjects |
