This subject is an introduction to teaching young children from birth to year 3 through the ARTS, which comprises five (5) subjects - Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Visual Arts. It will focus on developing Arts knowledge, understanding and skills, through Making, and Responding to authentic arts practice, in Early Childhood settings. Students will have opportunities to implement techniques, skills and processes to explore creative practice and to make art works. As artists and audiences, students will also respond to, analyse and interpret the artworks they experience in the five Arts subjects. They will develop resources for classroom implementation, and knowledge to extend the influence of arts throughout schools and their communities. The subject will be based on the Early Years Learning Framework, the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline and the Australian Curriculum: The Arts Foundation to Year 10.
Learning Outcomes
- make and respond to artworks critically, appreciatively and analytically;
- create 'virtual' learning environments, using either technology or imagination, through suspension of disbelief;
- apply knowledge and skills in each of the Arts subjects - Dance, Drama, Music, Media Arts and Visual Arts The Early Years Learning Framework outcomes, Children are Confident and Involved Learners and Children are Effective Communicators - to demonstrate arts literacy and an ability to use this knowledge to enhance teaching strategies;
- demonstrate understanding of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at a Developed level and relevant ACECQA standards.
