Core subject for BEd (ECE) students.
ED2590 - Early Childhood Education and Care 1, along with ED2491 - Teaching for Learning 1 and ED3590 - Early Childhood Education and Care 2, introduce students to early childhood pedagogy, from birth to age 8, with each subject taking a specific focus. ED3590 focuses on birth to age 2; ED2590 - ages 3 to 5; and ED2491 - ages 5 - 8. Pedagogy is further developed in third and fourth year professional development subjects. ED2590 introduces students to the National Quality Framework's Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF); the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Framework (QKLG) and their relationship to the Australian Curriculum. It examines early childhood pedagogy and practice; curriculum decision-making, including documenting learning and development; and, with a focus on the 3 to 5 age group, the creation of a learning portfolio and Transition Statement. In ED2590, there are ten (10) full days of professional experience in a prior to school setting with children aged from 3 to 5 years. This will offer students the opportunity to link theoretical learning to classroom practice (Note: the 10 days professional experience is spread over 10 weeks that is, 1 day per week).
