This subject introduces students to the vital areas of corporate financial management in today's globalised world of business. While the focus will be mostly on the financial management of multinational enterprises, students should be aware that, increasingly, domestically-focussed businesses are exposed to international risk, as they engage in exporting and importing, or borrowing in foreign currencies.

Learning Outcomes

• evaluate aspects of globalisation and the foreign exchange market;
• examine the essential features of currency futures and options contracts;
• discuss the nature of corporate exposure to transaction and translation foreign exchange rate risk and understand the strategies for their management;
• analyse the nature of operating exposure and examine strategies for its management;
• critically examine the nature of interest rate and currency swaps and their uses in multinational financial risk management; analyse the principles of global corporate financing including the concepts of integrated and segmented capital markets.
