The subject provides an introduction to physiology, including: an overview of cells tissues organs, organ systems and the basic functions of each, and how the organ systems function to maintain the environment within the body.
Learning Outcomes
- describe cellular composition, function, gene expression and homeostatic maintenance;
- explain the function of skeletal, nervous and muscular systems in coordinating body movement and transmitting signals;
- explain the function of the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, endocrine and reproductive systems in maintaining a regulated internal environment within the body;
- discuss in detail the function of organ systems, including the impact of homeostatic imbalances and environmental factors, and communicate findings using appropriate scientific terminology;
- analyse scientific materials to understand the basis of physiological measurements and use these measurements to determine whether the body is functioning normally;
- complete basic health care related calculations relevant to clinical practice.
