This performance-based clinical subject further develops the clinical knowledge, skills and professional attributes developed in SL2011, as outlined in CBOS 2011 with an emphasis on client centred and evidence-based approaches to the management of communication difficulties. Students will continue to apply the principles required for speech pathology assessment and intervention including integration of prior learning. Students will undertake clinical placements under the supervision and guidance of clinical educators and will have the opportunity to work directly with paediatric clients with speech and language impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions. A range of settings, both in the internal clinic and external facilities will be used to ensure that students have the opportunity to develop clinical competence with a variety of clients.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate effective communication skills when interacting with and interviewing clients and others, and when reporting clinical findings verbally and in written format;
• demonstrate competence in performing speech pathology assessments and interpreting the assessment results;
• apply clinical reasoning in assessment and management decisions in clinical activities;
• demonstrate reflective clinical competence with reference to the behavioural descriptors in COMPASS®(Generic Professional Competencies 1-4 and CBOS 2011 Units 1-4);
• review and apply the CBOS 2011 (Competency Based Occupational Standards 2011, Speech Pathology Australia), the Speech Pathology Australia Code of Ethics (2010), the International Classification of Function, and the principles of Evidence Based Practice to clinical practice.

SL2006 AND SL2011SL2006 and SL2011 Allow concurrent for SL2006 and SL2011

Assessment:	clinical placement (sat/unsat),learning plan - week 3 (sat/unsat), learning plan - end of semester (sat/unsat), viva examination (sat/unsat).
Special Assessment Requirements:	Students must achieve satisfactory in every individual assessment item and achieve at least 50% overall across all weighted assessments in order to pass the subject. Student must attend and actively participate in at least 80% of all scheduled classes and students must complete all scheduled clinical placement hours in order to pass the subject.
