PY3111 - Population Clinical Health Promotion and Communication

The focus in the subject will be upon health promotion and clinical health psychology as areas of specialization within health psychology. Both population level and individual level interventions will be considered. Taking a population health promotion perspective, topics covered include factors contributing to chronic disease and the social determinants of health. Particular attention will be paid to the differential impact such factors have upon different population groups, for example children, the elderly and indigenous Australians. Areas of focus include obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and physical activity. In the clinical health area, emphasis will be placed on psychological assessment relevant to physical illness, psychological and behavioural management in the treatment of illness, and clinical intervention design.
