This subject will address the mechanisms of disease processes. The general principles of pathobiology are covered with particular reference to the changes at the level of cells, tissues and organs. Students will also gain skills at gross tissue description, tissue preservation, cutting and staining techniques
Learning Outcomes
- compare at the cellular mechanisms associated with cellular injury, adaptation to alterations in extracellular environment, cell degeneration and death;
- describe the cellular changes associated with necrosis, inflammation, repair, haemostasis, genetic disorders and neoplasia;
- describe procedures routinely used in diagnostic anatomical pathology;
- describe the appearance of gross pathological specimens;
- demonstrate use of microscope, microtome and correct stain selection.
