This subject examines topics that directly impact delivery of nursing care within the acute care sector. A range of contemporary and emerging issues that impact the provision of acute nursing care will be explored including health policy, Indigenous health, workforce recruitment and retention, workplace culture and violence, education and training, substance misuse, developing technologies and prevention and/or treatment of non-communicable disease. Through the development of a case study, students will further explore and apply newly acquired knowledge to the specific context of their own workplace.
Learning Outcomes
- evaluate established and emerging issues that impact the delivery of contemporary acute nursing care;
- critically analyse the impact of specific health care policy and funding developments on the healthcare sector and the provision of acute nursing care;
- evaluate local and National solutions to the diverse challenges facing the acute care nursing workforce;
- explore the impact of advancing technology within the acute care sector.
