This subject explores professional communication strategies across a variety of mediums that healthcare professionals will use in their workplace. It will also explore digital communication and digital literacy, along with development of persuasive argument.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply advanced communication strategies for potentially challenging conversations and relationships relevant to the healthcare professional;
- Appraise and interpret communication theories;
- Demonstrate a wide use of digital platforms useful as part of the suite of communication methods available for communication;
- Incorporate principles of persuasive communication in the healthcare workplace;
- Reflect on and articulate strategies for enhanced communication in a culturally diverse healthcare workplace.

Assessment: | discussion task (10%); reflection task, workplace communication analysis (40%); case study, produce digital artifact and suggest areas for improvement in communication (20%); narrated power point, persuasive communication in action (30%). |
Special Assessment Requirements: | The assessments are authentic tasks that demonstrate the learner's understanding of persuasive communication in a variety of health contexts. They are clearly linked to weekly topics and build on learning experiences provided. Students will need to be working in a clinical/non-clinical area in a health related field to observe and apply communication and related principles learned in this subject. |
