The focus of this subject is to prepare the future graduate midwife with sufficient knowledge of legislation, policy, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics to safely and effectively work within maternity service drug therapy protocols.
Learning Outcomes
- apply knowledge of the Drug Therapy Protocol: Midwives (Queensland Government, 2016) or equivalent in planning care for mother and baby;
- critically analyse the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of medicines used in maternity care in Australia;
- demonstrate the principles of quality use of medicines across the pregnancy continuum;
- demonstrate the application of the NMBA (2006) National Competency Standards for the Midwife in relation to the use of medicines across the pregnancy continuum.
