This subject is focused on the challenges associated with working in rural and remote communities. Consideration is given to the diverse role of the nurse as a multi-skilled clinician and the issues related to accessing health services in isolated geographical locations is explored. In addition, conditions, diseases and trauma that are unique to rural and remote areas will be discused with reflection on appropriate multidisciplinary management approaches that endeavour to take into account cultural, individual and community concerns.
Learning Outcomes
- review and analyse the contextual factors and health issues that impact on rural and remote nursing in Australia;
- identify uses of information and communication technologies in rural and remote areas in Australia;
- communicate knowledge and information clearly and coherently to a range of audiences;
- critically reflect on clinical assessment knowledge and skills and their importance within rural and remote nursing;
- explain evidence-based models of care, including underlying theories used in clinical practice in rural and remote nursing in Australia.
