NS2112 - Grief and Crisis Management

Credit points: 03
Year: 2017
Student Contribution Band: Band 1
Administered by: College of Healthcare Sciences

This subject builds on the interpersonal communication skills developed in Communication for Nursing and Midwifery. The focus of this subject is the development of knowledge and skills to support those undergoing a crisis. Crises may be precipitated by a number of factors. Environmental, socio-cultural and developmental factors may all play a part in the development of a crisis. Illness can precipitate a crisis as the person loses some degree of independence and ability. The recognition of our mortality may also lead to a crisis. Those who are suddenly bereaved may find adjustment to the loss of a major person in their lives difficult.
