This subject explores the evolution of the moving image and its practical applications in an artistic and narrative setting. Students are required to create a series of moving image works throughout the study period culminating in a team based narrative project. Along the way, students explore a variety of time-based media techniques including image capture and mixing, non-linear video editing and DVD publishing. Students are required to watch and critique a season of moving image texts that explore a variety of cinematic styles and production methodologies, from the avant-garde to contemporary video art, video installation, web video and Australian and International cinema.
Learning Outcomes
- exhibit competency in the operation of a video / DSLR camera for moving image;
- successfully edit, produce and publish to the web, short films for mass consumption;
- demonstrate the ability to edit video clips in a none linear video editing program;
- employ cinema techniques for visual communication;
- demonstrate critical writing skills covering a range of cinematic periods & styles.
