This subject seeks to generate student awareness of the robust connections between employee wellbeing and organisational productivity. The antecedents and consequences of optimum employee wellbeing will be explored. Similarly, students will explore the causes, prevalence and impact of mental illness in Australian workplaces. Students will investigate the range and effectiveness of interventions, prevention, treatment and referral strategies available for the management of acute and chronic mental illness in workplace settings. Students will be guided in designing a workplace intervention or initiative to promote psychological wellbeing in the workplace. Students will also develop knowledge and skills in promoting mental health and techniques for managing stress.
Learning Outcomes
- integrate and apply an advanced understanding of principles and strategies associated with mental health and mental illness within the workplace;
- design of a safe and effective workplace intervention or initiative to promote mental health;
- convey propositions, strategies, recommendations, conclusions and professional decisions through advanced written communication skills.
