In this subject students will develop capacities and attributes associated with foundational psychology. The attributes comprise the knowledge, skills and values that are consistent with the science and application of psychology. This will include study of some of the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends in the core topics of psychology. Students will learn to apply and evaluate basic research methods in psychology, including research design, data analysis and interpretation. Students will also learn to respect and use critical and creative thinking, sceptical inquiry, and the scientific approach to solve problems related to behaviour and mental processes.
Learning Outcomes
- integrate and apply an advanced understanding of essential principles, theories, approaches,models and strategies associated with human behaviour;
- investigate, analyse, synthesise and evaluate complex information, data, concepts, theories and evolving evidence in the field of psychology;
- convey propositions, strategies, recommendations, conclusions and professional decisions through advanced written communication skills.
