In this subject students will explore the foundational concepts of physical activity and sedentary behaviour and the relationship between physical activity and health for a range of individuals and population groups. The lifestyle causes, prevalence and impact of obesity and associated chronic health conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and musculoskeletal pain will also be explored. Students will also develop and integrate knowledge and skills associated with health-based testing and exercise programming to design and facilitate health assessments for individuals, and to formulate evidence-based, client-specific exercise programs or interventions.
Learning Outcomes
- integrate and apply an advanced understanding of available tools and methods to assess individual health status and intervention planning processes;
- select appropriate tools and methods to assess individual health status, including for older workers and, where necessary, recommend relevant health referrals;
- design safe and effective individual interventions based on the synthesis of health assessment outcomes and evidence-based practice;
- convey strategies and recommendations through advanced written communication skills.

Special Assessment Requirements: | Students must pass each individual item of assessment, must achieve at least 50% overall across the weighted assessments and must attend and participate in the one-week on-campus learning activities in order to pass the subject. |
