This subject explores a range of approaches to the writing of history. It focuses on the changing trends in historical writing from the 1970s to the present.

- analyse and compare key theoretical and methodological debates that have shaped the evolution of historical scholarship;
- apply skills of research and analysis appropriate to the honours level of study;
- apply concepts in historical methodology and theory to a research project.
