ED3590 - Early Childhood Education and Care 2, along with ED2590 - Early Childhood Education and Care 1, covers early childhood pedagogy, from birth to age 8, with each subject taking a specific focus. ED3590 focuses on birth to age 2; ED2590 - ages 3 to 5; and ED2491 - ages 5 - 8. Pedagogy is further developed in third and fourth year professional development subjects. ED3590 - Early Childhood Education and Care 2, further explores Australia's National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education and Care, with particular focus on the National Quality Standard and the National Laws and Regulations, including the Quality Improvement process. It critically examines pedagogy for children from birth to age 2. It also covers the history, current and future directions of Early Childhood Education in Australia, the role of the Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority, and professional development topics relevant to the early childhood sector. Ten (10) full days of professional experience in a birth to age 2 setting will offer students the opportunity to link theoretical learning to classroom practice.
