Introduction to reaction kinetics and mechanisms. Analysis of rate data and formulation of rate equations and reaction mechanisms. Fundamentals of ideal reactor behaviour. Design of batch, completely mixed and plug flow reactors for single and multiple reactions. Multiple and Recycle reactors. Temperature and pressure effects, adiabatic and non-adiabatic reactions, thermal stability of reactors. Simultaneous mass and energy balances in design of homogenous reactions. Residence time distribution. Modelling of non-ideal reactor behaviour. Heat and mass transfer effects in heterogeneous reactions, catalytic solid-fluid reactions, diffusion and reaction in porous catalysts.
