This subject is a bridging chemistry subject designed to be equivalent of Queensland Senior high school chemistry (and its equivalents in other Australian states). Completion of this subject satisfies the chemistry entry requirements for many JCU degree programs. Content includes chemistry as a science discipline; matter and atoms; elements and the Periodic Table; chemical bonding; molecular shapes and polarity; introduction to organic compounds; moles; reaction stoichiometry; limiting reagents; concentrations; intermolecular interactions; gases; phase transitions and heat capacity; reaction kinetics; enthalpy and entropy; chemical equilibrium; acids and bases; redox reactions.
