The subject provides an overview of the financial markets and financial institutions including banks and non-bank financial institutions. It is essential that students who seek to work in the finance sector understand the nature and operation of financial institutions and markets. Students should also be aware of risk management activities and the emerging area of Islamic banking.
Learning Outcomes
- evaluate and analyse financial risks and risk management strategies using derivatives;
- evaluate and analyse the structure, operation and performance of domestic equity, capital and money markets and their linkages with international financial systems;
- appraise the role and functions of financial intermediaries and regulators in the financial system.
