The subject teaches the principles of aquatic animal physiology and provides insight into the mechanisms involved in the stress, health, growth and reproduction of aquatic animals. A key focus is on how physiological systems respond to important environmental factors and the significance of animal adaptations in their ability to cope with environment stressors, whether it is a managed environment, such as in aquaculture, or in the natural environment.

They should have an excellent understanding of science subjects including basic biology, chemistry, aquaculture and statistics
