Enrolment in this subject is restricted to all students enrolled n the Bachelor of Speech Pathology Honours degree (including students from IHCAP stream who undertake Honours).
Clinical component: Students will participate in clinical education placements in which they will work with supervision and guidance from clinical educators. Students will work directly with clients with a range of impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions related to speech, language, voice, fluency, multimodal communication and swallowing. Students will conduct assessments, plan and deliver services for clients, as well as providing community education with increasing autonomy. A range of settings, both in the internal clinic and external facilities will be used to ensure that students develop clinical competence with a variety of clients. Students will collate evidence and reflect on clinical experiences for their portfolio. Honours project component: Students will finalise planning for the Honours research project in preparation for SL4101 and SL4103 and submit ethics application (if appropriate) or equivalent documentation.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate intermediate level competency in the clinical management of a range of speech, language, voice, multimodal communication, fluency or swallowing disorders and in the communication of observations and clinical findings;
- demonstrate intermediate level professional and ethical behaviour appropriate to the policies and procedures of the clinical placement setting and to the profession of speech pathology;
- demonstrate intermediate levels of competency across Generic Units 1-4 and Professional Units 1-4 of the CBOS2011 in terms of independence, caseload complexity, efficiency and critical thinking;
- demonstrate the ability to finalise planning and design an Honours research project and submit ethics application (if appropriate) or equivalent documentation.

| Special Assessment Requirements: | This subject will be marked as a non-graded pass/fail. Students must successfully pass all components to pass this subject. Students must complete all clinical placement hours and must attend and actively participate in at least 80% of scheduled meetings and classes. |
