Enrolment is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology with Honours (including students in IHCAP stream who undertake Honours).
Clinical component: Students will participate in clinical education placements in which they will work with supervision and guidance from clinical educators. Students will work directly with clients with a range of impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions related to speech, language, voice, fluency, multimodal communication and swallowing. Students will conduct assessments, plan and deliver services for clients, as well as providing community education with increasing autonomy. A range of settings, both in the internal clinic and external facilities will be used to ensure that students develop clinical competence with a variety of clients. Students will collate evidence and reflect on clinical experiences for their portfolio. Honours Project component: Students will select a Speech Pathology Honours Project and commence an ethics application (if appropriate).
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate development toward intermediate level competency in clinical management of a range of speech, language, voice, fluency, multimodal communication or swallowing disorders and in the ability to communicate observations and clinical findings to clients and others;
- demonstrate development toward intermediate level professional and ethical behaviour appropriate to the policies and procedures of the clinical placement setting and to the profession of speech pathology;
- demonstrate development toward intermediate levels of competency across Generic Units 1-4 and Professional Units 1.4 of the CBOS2011 in terms of independence, caseload complexity, efficiency and critical thinking;
- demonstrate the ability to plan an Honours research project for SL4101/3 and submit a full draft of the ethics application (if appropriate) or equivalent document.

Special Assessment Requirements: | This subject will be marked as a non-graded pass/fail. Students must successfully pass all components to pass this subject. Students must complete all clinical placement hours and must attend and actively participate in at least 80% of scheduled meetings and classes. |
