Applicants must have completed at least a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at an Australian University or hold an equivalent international entry level qualification. Note: Completion of the subject will not enable Australian registration of overseas qualified health professionals.
This subject will provide an overview of the philosophy and theory base in the field of mental health, the key mental health theorists within occupational therapy, current Australian mental health care contexts and occupational therapy assessments routinely used in this specialty area of practice. Students will be required to critically appraise and apply the core concepts delivered and discussed in this subject to an individual case study.
Learning Outcomes
- identify, critique and apply appropriate core occupational therapy assessments in a clinical situation;
- apply and critique appropriate theoretical concepts and professional frameworks in a clinical situation;
- identify, discuss and critique leading occupational therapists contribution to the theoretical body of knowledge in the area of mental health.
Assumed Knowledge: | To enrol in this subject students will require the knowledge and skills commensurate with completion of an undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy. |
