Available ONLY to students enrolled in the Postgraduate Certificate of Allied Health Sciences, Postgraduate Certificate of Soft Tissue Injury and Master of Occupational Therapy (Coursework). The residential will be delivered at JCU Townsville.

This subject will review material covered in OT5006 and include advanced teaching of physiology, anatomy and neurology, biokinesiology, diagnostic and treatment techniques and research methodology. Some complementary health modalities will be reviewed.

Learning Outcomes

• analyse precipitating and perpetuating factors associated with soft tissue injury problems. Devise ongoing remedial activities for environmental (eg work) or functional (eg posture) deficits;
• demonstrate specialised treatment strategies to address clinical conditions, including manual therapy, sports injuries and workplace injuries;
• devise advanced programs of stretching, exercises and modified duties at home, work and leisure for individual clients. Apply advanced therapeutic intervention process to individuals and workplace environment to enhance performance and productivity across the lifespan;
• identify limitation in specific soft tissue structures in the shoulder and neck (related to headaches and shoulder dysfunction) and lower back and hip (related to back pain and lower limb dysfunction);
• understand the impact upon human performance of changes in structures of muscle, tendons and ligaments following changes in pathology with particular emphasis on the upper and lower limbs.
