Available to level 4 occupational therapy students enrolled in the honours course.
This is a practice education subject specifically for students enrolled in the embedded Occupational Therapy Honours program and is in place of OT4001. The focus of this subject will be on the student developing a higher level of professional skill and competencies, and further advancing their research, professional reasoning skills and reflective practice through the integration of practical and theoretical course components. This subject will provide students with an opportunity to further integrate their learning gained from previous practice education. As part of this subject, students will complete a minimum of 380 hours which includes a 10 week supervised practice education placement with flexible support from the University. The placement will be either rural or urban and will enable the student to advance their ability to apply, develop, analyse and integrate the theories, principles and practice of occupational therapy in a variety of settings. Students may be required to undertake placements in a facility away from the campus at which they are currently enrolled, at their own expense.
Learning Outcomes
- critically evaluate and apply evidence-based and culturally appropriate Occupational Therapy practice skills within a professional service context;
- consolidate professional attitudes and behaviours to further develop professional identity and resilience during practice;
- analyse and synthesise practice experience, research evidence and Occupational Therapy theory to further advance professional skills;
- critically appraise own personal and professional performance to enhance service delivery provision;
- collaborate and negotiate effectively with co-workers in a practice setting, to formulate appropriate client-centred services.

Special Assessment Requirements: | This subject will receive a grade of satisfactory/unsatisfactory. All assessment tasks must be passed to achieve a satisfactory in this subject. At least one week prior to commencing placement, or one week prior to study period start date (whichever is earlier), students must provide evidence that all pre-placement requirements remain current to the duration of the study period, or the placement (whichever is later). |
