Professional Midwifery Care is designed to encapsulate aspects of the art and science of midwifery practice through discussion of the socio-historical, cultural and political issues for midwives, ethico-legal concerns, and contemporary professional issues.
Learning Outcomes
- discuss the social and political forces that influence how midwifery practice in Australia is shaped;
- discuss relationships between ethical, legal and professional behaviours in midwifery practice;
- reflect on their own developing practice to identify learning needs;
- plan ongoing professional development into the medium term to meet identified learning needs;
- critically analyse how their reflective practice will influence their professional development over the course of the degree and their careers;
- describe the full scope of practice of the midwife as a practitioner, according to national and statutory requirements.
