Community Approaches to Care offers the nursing student an introduction to some of the issues associated with providing nursing care in the community. The students are given electronic (online) directed learning packages that guide them through the relevant information throughout the semester. The subject covers the theoretical foundations of working with the community, such as applied primary health care, epidemiology, and health care systems. It guides students through the process of community assessment, and program planning and evaluation. It also applies the principles of health promotion to a number of vulnerable populations.
