In this subject students explore the theoretical concepts of person, health, environment and caring as they relate to nursing. A primary focus of this subject is developing an awareness of the health status of the individual, the family and the community. In Professional Experience Workshop Sessions, opportunities are provided to develop and consolidate foundational clinical skills used in assessment and intervention when caring for persons requiring assistance with activities of living.
Learning Outcomes
- apply assessment tools for basic data collection when monitoring individual health status against parameters of "normal";
- develop the foundation clinical skills needed for the assessment of the health status of the individual, the family and the community;
- outline the precautions necessary to maintain a safe environment for the patient, the nurse and colleagues;
- apply the principles of health, environment and caring to nursing practice;
- describe the influence of variables such as culture, lifestyle, values and beliefs on the health and health needs of the individual, the family and the community.
