This subject is available to students enrolled in level 3 of the Bachelor of Health Science (Physician Assistant). It will cover PA professional role, evidence-based medicine, public health topics and board exam review. The emphasis will be on clinical decision making, public health and health promotion and the health of special populations including Indigenous Australians. The topics will be presented in an integrated fashion across the study period. Students will undertake clinical placements in GP settings that may include general outpatient adult medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics and sports medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, care of diabetic patients and nephrology. In addition, clinical placements may take place in the inpatient setting in general internal medicine, internal medicine specialties and emergency medicine. Students may also undertake an elective placement.
