Available to Masters of Rural and Remote Medicine or Postgraduate Diploma of Rural and Remote Medicine students only or by permission of Head of School.
This subject will equip the student with communication skills for particular individuals and in specific contexts including communication for effective disaster management, for statutory and legal reporting and with different cultural and inter-professional groups, and using a variety of communication modes and technologies.
Learning Outcomes
- Participate in disaster planning and implementation of disaster plans, and post-incident analysis and debriefing;
- Formulate a management plan in collaboration with the patient and/or carer by applying best evidence and the advice of expert colleagues;
- Communicate findings of clinical assessment and management to the patient, carer, local and distributed health care team, and wider community in an ethical and professional manner;
- Write clinical documentation in accordance with legal and professional standards and provide accurate and ethical certification for sickness, employment, social benefits and other purposes;
- Collaborate and communicate with key public, emergency and population health groups.
