Available to any experienced medical practitioner currently working in a rural or remote location.
This subject presents definitions and concepts of rural health care data on the health status of rural and remote populations and the impact of rural health care policy. It also investigates concepts and challenges related to working as a rural medical practitioner. For experienced medical practitioners it is an opportunity to reflect on their own practice from an academic perspective. For junior doctors it is an opportunity to learn about living and practising in rural and remote contexts.
Learning Outcomes
- Apply the theoretical roles of a rural doctor to specific rural and remote contexts;
- Define concepts policies strategies and initiatives applicable to rural and remote medicine;
- Describe diverse rural and remote cultures in Australia and overseas;
- Analyse new and emerging rural communities;
- Compare the health of rural and remote communities from local, national and international health perspectives.
