This subject is part of a two-year Honours course that includes the normal requirements of the parallel pass degree subjects MD6010, MD6020 and MD6030. It will therefore build on the content of MD5010, MD5020 and MD5030 to achieve a high level of integration between the basic medical sciences and the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for clinical health care, through five eight-week rotations in various clinical health care settings. Students enrolled in the honours course will undertake a research-based task in their elective rotation (one of the five) that builds upon the preparatory work for their project in MD5110, MD5120 and MD5130.

Learning Outcomes

• ability to take a focused history from and conduct a focused examination on patients with a range of health problems;
• to determine and interpret an appropriate range of clinical investigations relevant to each patient problem and generate a management plan in response to each patient problem;
• to generate a list of health care problems that patients may have;
• to undertake an internship in any Australian hospital;
• demonstrate high level mastery of integration of basic and clinical medical sciences and a capacity to analyse the literature and apply it in a clinical context.

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.

Special Assessment Requirements:	Satisfactory attendance at community & clinical placements is a pre-requisite. Must achieve a pass score in all assessments in order to progress. The Honours component of Entry Seminar (5%) & Literature review (10%) (both completed in Yr5) along with the Exit seminar (15%),the Thesis (65%) and the supervisor assessment (5) % contribute to the class of Honours awarded at the end of MD6130.
