LB5993 - Socially Responsible Rural Leadership

Credit points: 03
Year: 2016
Student Contribution Band: Band 3
Administered by: College of Business, Law & Governance

This subject is designed and available exclusively for graduates of the Australian Rural Leadership Programme (ARLP) who elect to pursue Entry Pathway 2 of the JCU Graduate Certificate in Australian Rural Leadership.

A socially responsible and critical approach to rural issues assists leaders to recognise contested values and perspectives embedded in complex rural issues, enabling them to improve their appreciation of diversity and to respond from a 'worldly wise' understanding of social contexts. Students will be required to study on-line materials relating to the topics of responsible leadership, leadership ethics, complexity theory and the management of diversity. The assessment strategy for this subject is integral to its design. Students will apply theories introduced in this subject to their personal leadership practice in two stages through the development of a 'proposal' and fuller 'reflective essay'. Students will receive coaching from tutors to facilitate understanding and application of theory.
