Student Contribution Band: | Band 3 |
Administered by: | College of Business, Law & Governance |
Australia's mining boom has seen the landscape - literally and figuratively - change significantly. In the face of promised economic benefits, mineral resources have competed with the natural environment and water resources, and on many occasions also with landowners, local communities and traditional owners of land. This subject looks critically at the regulatory frameworks for mining and natural resources in terms of sustainability. It canvasses the relationship between minerals, natural resources and land, the environmental and social consequences of their exploitation, and the economic issues that inform the legislative and broader governance framework.
Learning Outcomes
- Find and apply the law relevant to mining and resource exploitation with reference to particular case studies;
- Evaluate the regulatory frameworks for mineral and natural resource exploitation in the Australian context in terms of sustainability.
