The subject will demonstrate how to research Australian local history, using North Queensland topics as examples. Students will learn skills in oral history, document and photograph interpretation, using archives and research libraries, and using material historical remains.
Learning Outcomes
- assist students to acquire skills in finding, collating and analysing historical data, and the skills necessary to write a research work in history;
- introduce students to advanced research skills in local history; research primary source material in archives and general libraries; use oral history collecting skills; use photographs and other material records;
- develop an understanding of the issues involved in researching and writing local history.
| Assumed Knowledge: | To undertake this subject, students must have successfully completed 12 credit points (four subjects) of level 1 study at tertiary level |

| Assessment: | quizzes or tests (10%); major research essay (60%); research portfolio (30%). |
| Special Assessment Requirements: | Attendance on all six days is required for successful completion of the subject. The major assignment is due 2 months after face to face teaching has finished. |
