Translation theory and practice including cross-cultural considerations and the role of translators.
Learning Outcomes
- to give students practice in applying the above in practical translating;
- to make explicit some of the major differences between English and French e.g. in the ordering of elements within complex sentences, in the linking of sentences and paragraphs, in levels of abstraction;
- to make explicit the importance of cultural values in the comprehension of a text.
Assumed Knowledge: | To undertake this subject, students must have successfully completed 12 credit points (four subjects) of level 1 study at tertiary level |
