This subject is a thirteen-week seminar (of weekly two-hour meetings) in advanced English study, the theme and contents of which are designed on a year-by-year basis according to English faculty availability, expertise, and research interest. Students will contribute substantially to seminar research, preparation, and discussion in both oral and written media in order to develop high-level academic skills in the discipline.
Learning Outcomes
- to develop skills in independent research and critical analysis appropriate to Honours level of study in the English discipline;
- to develop skills of seminar contribution, in particular the delivery of research papers;
- to raise literary-critical writing skills to a level appropriate for future postgraduate study.
| Assumed Knowledge: | Students undertaking this subject are assumed to have completed an undergraduate degree in a relevant area, with a major in English literature. Students are expected to possess relevant skills in academic writing practice and seminar contribution, demonstrated by a GPA of 5.0 or higher (or equivalent). |
