This subject is available to all students who possess a relevant undergraduate degree or diploma approved by the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Arts, Education and Social Sciences. ED5911 is offered in external mode in Australia where lectures and tutorials are conducted online through Learn JCU; however some on-campus tutorials may be negotiated. ED5911 is offered in limited mode in Singapore.
Educating for sustainability is one of the key issues for our time. This subject introduces contemporary approaches to education for sustainability at international and national level. In this subject you will be introduced to recent policy, curriculum, pedagogy, and research and be encouraged to link theoretical understandings with innovative ideas for education for sustainability practice in a range of educational and community settings. ED5911 is an AQF level 9 subject that aims to consolidate your knowledge of socio-ecological systems and processes with a view to enhancing your capacity to understand and educate for local, regional and global sustainability.
Learning Outcomes
- think and write critically and creatively in the field of environmental education for sustainability in a chosen sector and/or across sectors;
- understand the international, national, and relevant state frameworks, statements, policies, curriculum initiatives and resources as regards education for sustainability;
- reflect critically on professional and community issues in education for sustainability;
- undertake a research and/or curriculum project in education for sustainability;
- evaluate curriculum and teaching practices in relevant professional settings.
