To equip future Health and Physical Education teachers with the expertise and associated knowledge and skills to fulfil their official teaching and learning responsibilities. This subject intends to explore advanced teaching in health and physical education, as well as explore the pedagogy and practice of service learning. In ED4493, preservice teachers will integrate and extend on their discipline and curriculum knowledge and skills to plan innovative learning experiences for children/adolescents, apply technology in an engaging and learning-oriented manner, and develop assessment items and make judgements. Preservice teachers will develop and implement pedagogical initiatives that support learning beyond the official health and physical education curriculum through meaningful community service (minimum 50 hours). The service learning projects will aim to strengthen communities with a focus on activities that promote social responsibility. Preservice teachers will explore a range of learning partnerships with community agencies, industry and business, preparing them for their role with children/students and in the wider community.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand and apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession and ensure that service and community learning experience enhances the status of the profession;
- Critically reflect on professional learning and active citizenship, and disseminate their contributions the the wider community;
- Demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at an assured level;
- Critically reflect on assessment practices in health and physical education to design quality tasks that integrate technology, and gain critical insight into judgement and moderation processes;
- Demonstrate professional engagement with colleagues and the wider community through established learning goals, participation in teams, and demonstration of responsive and differentiated pedogogies for diverse learners in authentic contexts.
