Core subject for BEd (ECE) students.

This subject introduces students to Australia's National Quality Framework for Early Childhood education and care, with particular focus on the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). It also introduces the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Framework(QKLG) and the Continua of Learning and Development curriculum. Taking a play-based approach, ED2590 explores early childhood pedagogy, principles and practices. In ED2590, there are ten (10) full days of professional experience in a prior to school setting with children aged from 3 to 5 years. This will offer students the opportunity to link theoretical learning to classroom practice (Note: the 10 days professional experience is spread over 10 weeks that is, 1 day per week).

Assumed knowledge in this subject includes an understanding of the development of the young child in terms of physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development as studied in ED1481:03 Foundations of Educational Psychology.
Prerequisites:6 credit points of level 1 ED subjects including ED1401 or ADM to course code 38110
