This subject provides an introduction to the Australian Curriculum Technology subjects (Design and Technologies and Digital Technologies); ICTs (Information Communication Technology) as a general capability and the components of information literacy. Students will engage with inquiring, creating, communicating and operating ICTs within an ethical framework along with exploring important current issues with ICT such as indigenous uses of ICT and ICT for sustainability. Digital teaching and learning theory and pedagogies are examined. Students will explore the social and psychological impact of information communication technologies and their connection with, and beyond education. You will find that the above as well as various key concepts, content, and teaching/learning theories introduced and explored in ED1441 are continued in other BEd subjects.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate at an introductory level knowledge and understanding of the concepts, content and teaching strategies of the technology learning area and ICT general capabilities;
- demonstrate at an introductory level through the learning experiences provided, teaching strategies for using ICTs to expand curriculum learning opportunities for students;
- demonstrate at an introductory level through the learning experiences provided, knowledge of a range of ICT resources that engage students in their learning;
- demonstrate at an introductory level a broad range of teacher knowledge, competencies and dispositions that address effectively teaching of technology and ICT curriculum with an emphasis on the priority areas of Indigenous education, education for sustainability, rural and regional education in and for the tropics;
- demonstrate Australian Professional Standards for Teachers at an introductory level.
