Topics include details of the architecture, logical operation security and performance characteristics of layers 2, 3 and 4 of the internet. Students are expected to investigate and prepare a report on some aspect of current developments in internet design research.
Learning Outcomes
- knowledge of the architectural principles and performance characteristics of layers 2, 3 and 4;
- analyse security issues and exploits at layers 2, 3 and 4;
- characterise performance problems at layer 4;
- understand implications for ICT of proposed revisions and extensions of internet architecture.
