CH3104 - Advanced Chemistry Project

Credit points: 03
Year: 2016
Student Contribution Band: Band 2
Administered by: College of Science and Engineering

Offered in SP2

This subject is taken by third year chemistry majors, usually in their final undergraduate semester. It constitutes an introduction to research in chemistry, and leads on to honours and postgraduate level research. At the core of the subject is the completion of a significant piece of practical work in the research laboratory of one of the academic staff within the Discipline of Chemistry. This subject involves researching a project, carrying out the research and the reporting of that research, both in a written report and by an oral presentation to the Discipline and the students' peers. A second aspect of the subject involves acquisition of "generic skills" that include database searching, laboratory safety, intellectual property, oral presentation skills and working within a team (as part of a research group).
